For several years, St. John would host a weekend
campout, usually in October, at Ink's Lake, with an outdoor divine
liturgy on Sunday morning. Here are scenes from the Liturgy in
1997--the Gospel reading and the end of the Great Entrance. |

The beautiful scenery would make up for the unpredictable central-Texas climate--one year the cold snap during our campout weekend dropped overnight temperatures to around freezing! That means the same temperature both inside and outside your "shelter!" Campfires we a requirement both morning and evening! Running water? Yes, outside the shelter! Far right, the "Devil's Watering Hole", a popular jumping-off place for the young people (when the weather cooperated!)

After spending about a year having services at the Holiday Inn, we leased and finished-out a 2,000SF storefront on Amhearst Drive in Austin. Left, the Exaltation of the Cross in '98, looking toward the altar; upper right, the aftermath of the "30-hour Famine" youth lock-in in '95, in our combo nave/fellowship hall; lower right, luxurious outdoor eating in the alleyway behind the storefront with folks from St. Elias who attended our inaugural service in '95. |
