An Introduction to The Church
What is “Church”, anyway? Everywhere you turn nowadays there are advertisements for Christian worship services (often not even using the word “church”), promising all sorts of experiences. Well, we think a historical perspective is in order.
So, here’s what we’re up to: On Friday, January 29th, and Saturday, January 30th, we are going to be sponsoring a seminar at our parish. The seminar will give you clear, intelligent answers to questions like these:
· Why are there so many different Christian
groups?
· Which group is the original group?
· Why
should that make a difference?
· How can
I tell what is true?
· How many
versions of the Bible are there?
· Which
style of worship is the most authentic?
· Why are
there so many different ideas about salvation?
But we also want you to know what isn’t going to happen during this seminar:
· There are no fees; no offering will be
collected.
· You will
not be asked to share any personal information other than your name.
· There
will be no altar calls.
· You will
not be pressured to make a decision about anything.
It may all sound too good to be true, but it’s all on the up and up: we just want to give people accurate, solid information about the Church. If you have questions—or if you just want to check us out before making a decision to attend—you are welcome to come by and visit with us at St John the Forerunner Orthodox Church. We are located at 800 West Park in Cedar Park; our phone number is 258-1711. Following is a schedule for the seminar—we hope you’ll find it interesting, and we hope to see you there.
