Our Building
and Growth
back

The Location

St. John parish is located in Cedar Park, a rapidly growing suburb of Austin.  Our 4.2 acre plot is located only 1/2 mile from highway 183, the major east/west growth corridor of northwest Austin, and easily accessible to the 183A toll road. From this location, we serve not only Cedar Park, but also the surrounding area which includes the cities of Jonestown, Leander, Burnet, Georgetown and Round Rock as well as northwest Austin.

The Plan

Shortly after moving to Cedar Park, our community hired the firm of Jackson Galloway Architects to help us plan for the future use of the property. They produced a four stage plan: the first phase was the renovation of what is now the parish house (2); this was completed in 2003. The second phase was the construction of a multi-use building (1) which currently serves as our temple, but will eventually become our fellowship hall. This phase also expanded parking with an additional 50 spaces on the east side of the property. The 3-year Capital Campaign for this phase began in 2006, construction began April, 2009 and we had our first services in the new multi-use building on January 23, 2010. The third phase is the expansion of the multi-use building (pink shaded areas on (1)), demolition of the parish house (2), and in its place, construction of the church temple (3) at the street side of the property. The fourth and final long-range phase, as growth warrants, is the construction of a classroom, activity, and office building (5). Each phase will involve incremental expansion of the parking areas (4). Even fully developed, the rear of the property will still be left with over 1/2 acre of natural area.

The Neighborhood

A broad price range of neighborhoods, with new and older homes priced from $100K to over $600K, can be found within a 0-7 minute drive from the church. Most neighborhoods have sidewalks, parks and swimming pools.  For those living close to the church, daily Orthros and Vespers services provide highly flexible opportunities for prayer and worship.
